Stock Photography 101 | End of First Quarter Evaluation, Review, and Changes

It's the end of the first quarter which means it's time for me to make some adjustments, review where I am, and tell you about some things I am changing.

It seems like it has been a long winter here in the northeast, but Spring is beginning. Last week, we had over 1 inches of snow. This week, all that snow is gone as we have had temperatures in the 60's. I always map things out by quarters. It seems easier to me to try to accomplish things by 1st, 2nd 3rd, and 4th quarters. That's how I run my stock photography business.

So let's get started with my first quarter report.

Reevaluation of Blogger Platform

I did look carefully at my decision to move from WordPress to Blogger. And I am staying with Blogger.  There may be several little things I don't like or wish I could change, but those minor nits are not worth the time (or expense) it would take to have my own website.

Changes to My Stock Agencies

I have made a decision to cut-back on the agencies where I am making continuous submissions.  In the first quarter, I have decided that I would contribute to:

  • Adobe Stock
  • Alamy
  • Dreamstime
  • iStock/Getty
  • Shutterstock

Other agencies where I have submitted in the past are still going to have the images I submitted previously. I am just not planning to make additional submissions.  The decision is simple: I need to better manage my time, and my sales at other agencies have not been substantial.

Etsy Selling Commenced

Etsy is now a part of my selling strategy. I am placing some of my fine art images on the Etsy platform. I am still learning to work with Etsy, but you can see my store by clicking here

Fine Art America Strategy Implemented

I have added Fine Art America products to my website. I now can offer more than just printed images.  I have shirts, cups, and housewares with some of my images. You can see my offerings by clicking here.

Stock Photography 101 Launched and Underway

I have added a new feature to my website/blog that I am calling Stock Photography 101. It is just basic information for other photographers that would like to learn more about working in stock. There is now a separate category for Stock Photography 101 on this site.

Production of More Stock Video Clips

I have decided to try to produce more stock video. I have resisted doing so for quite a while, but that is changing. More on my Stock Video in a future post, so stay tuned.

Other than that, not much happening here. Time to be heading out to create more images and video clips. Come on Spring!  I have my batteries recharged and I am ready to go!
